I had an absolute blast photographing Maryjane and Barry’s wedding! Not only were they absolutely awesome to work with, but they also got married at a really cool venue as well, Mio, a Latin American upscale restaurant. Maryjane and Barry were full of laughs all day and night, as their closest friends and family helped them celebrate their day of days! Congratulations guys!
Virginia has countless Vineyards with majestic views and great tasting wines. After a trip that included many winding back roads the entrance to Sunset Hills Vineyard did not disappoint. The entrance, for as long as you could see was lined by two rows of Eastern White Pine, concealing the Vineyard and all its beauty.
It was such a pleasure to shoot Mandy and Wes’s wedding.
Thank you so much for having me as your photographer and I hope you enjoy these!

I am so excited to be able to share Mandy and Spencer’s wedding today. Back in June I got to photograph their engagement session, which as my friend Bree at Capital Romance stated, was the “EXACT kind of alternative, individualisticness [engagement session], that [she] searches for everyday”. Their wedding was nothing short of the bar they set during their engagement session.
But first, to the beginning of things. Spencer is a reporter in the DC area and, back in November of 2007, was working for Talking Points Memo. As Mandy writes, “I work in the press shop at the ACLU legislative office. I already knew who he was and was a fan of his writing. I also knew he was a fan of the Clash – my favorite band as well. He called for a comment on wiretapping legislation and I totally used the opportunity to talk about our mutual musical interests. He asked me what my favorite Clash song was and I told him “Death or Glory.” He told me it was his favorite, too, and he had a tattoo to prove it. Swoon. We didn’t talk for months after that but basically I found him on Facebook as soon as I joined in April 2008 and he asked me out pretty quickly, thank god. The rest, as they say, is history.”
Their proposal takes the cake though. Last November, Spencer made reservations at Nora for dinner. Mandy thought he might be up to something but, as she related, “by the time we were a bottle of wine in, I’d totally forgotten. After we ordered dessert, he began saying some very lovely things, which culminated with him getting up and kneeling next to me at the table. Honestly, the first words out my mouth were, ‘W – T – F?!’ ‘Yes’ came a few seconds later.”
Their wedding took place on a hot day at the end of July. Hot may not even begin to describe the thermometer reading. But Mandy was as cool and ready for fun as ever.
Mandy’s dress is simply amazing. Vintage and stylish all wrapped up in small package.
Mandy and Spencer opted to have a first look. I love when my couple decides to see each other for the first time before the actual wedding ceremony. It gives us time to grab a few of the most intimate images of the day- even before the ceremony begins- and allows the couple to enjoy more time with their guests later on in the day.
Once again I had the please of working with Meredith VanKoevering as my second shooter. She snapped the photo below just moments after I grabbed the pic above.
Trevor, of MyDeeJay, made sure to crank out some great tunes, including some of the Clash’s greatest hits.
